Morning peeps - me Nige and Nick were chatting yesterday about the low repsonse to the Scotland trip and we wondered if the issue was the number of days and the distance to go. I thought I'd post up to see if there is any interest to do something closer to home on that weekend, Friday 20th April. We can go West Wales to Nant Y Airian / Brechfa / Cwm Rhayader or up to Coed again and maybe take in Llandegla. If you can post up whether you would like to do something that weekend and where you would like to go, we can go from there. Thanks, L

Hi Lisa, I'd definitely be interested in a trip to any of those locations on that date. Kath

Up for anything me...

Lots to do in mid/north Wales so sounds like a good plan.

In my diary. Also don't care where but that's not very useful. So as we did Coed last trip my vote is for West Wales this time?

Can I suggest the quantocks, I know it' l mean some of you will need to renew your passports as it involves leaving wales, bit the biking is quite good, and will make a change from welsh trail centres.

I'll vouch for the Quantocks, it's not far and the singletrack is awesome, Ben and I went there for a day last summer and were blown away by some of the swoopy, stream-hopping descents plus exmoor is right next door.

Can't make it myself though - my daughter's birthday is that weekend.

Hope to see you lot again soon, work/kids activities mean I can't get home in time to make it to the shop on a Thursday at the moment - hopefully when the shop moves to Trethomas I'll be out again!

Yes Peaks is real good.We have done this before but I am guessing there is so much to ride there that we would be on different trail routes to last time.We could use the same bunkhouse, not as good as Coed but still ok.

Just checked that bunkhouse is booked up around April so can't use that one.

I'd also be up for anything not too far away. Peaks, West Wales, Quantocks. Nigel: was my breakfast not as good as Mav's? I feel sad now.

Mark, DannyP; no complaints from me the breakfast was great it’s just Mav knows how to cook for a guy in the morning; he has had loads of practice.

Good suggestions. I quite fancy something not using trail centers. It's really easy to download good routes from GPSies.com to yur Garmin if you need any route suggestions. Unfortunately my Garmin has just packed in and needs a £100 refurb :(

Chaps and chapettes, the group decision on this Friday was to go to the quantocks. Smoothy suggested Triscombe as a base. On reflection my only concern Is if we are doing natural riding all weekend we need to be very mindful of mixed abilities and fitness. Someone also needs to be responsible for route planning. Trail centres give everyone the option to do what suits them. I'm away with work this week and plan to get something booked up next weekend. I'll pick this thread back up then and we'll get something sorted. In the meantime feel free to research bunkhouse options and post them up, along with any further thoughts on place, cheers L :-)

If route planning and matching them with abilities is a problem have a look here - lots of routes covering quantocks, exmoor (which is next door) and even dartmoor if you want to go further afield.  All described and graded for you easy, moderate or hard.

As far as the Qs goes though, make sure that you include Smith's Combe, Weacombe and Holford Combe in the north and (from memory) you won't regret it.  Plus all the combes are accessible from the fire road along the ridge so the ride can be as long or short as you like.  Climb, from Hodder's combe car park or the fire-road from near West Quantoxhead or Crowcombe, descend, whoop with joy, wash, rinse, remove any unwanted hangers-on, repeat. Ace!

Oh, and don't be fooled into thinking all the climbs are ridable, some are near vertical grassy sheep tracks so pick the climbs with care.
